Background:
The Dismantling Racism and Hate Act mandated OEA to develop a provincial equity and anti-racism strategy to address systemic hate, inequity, and racism. The Equity and Anti-Racism Strategy, released in July of 2023, responded to feedback from the following communities:
Mi’kmaw and Persons of Indigenous Descent
African Nova Scotians and Persons of African Descent
2SLGBTQIA+ Community
Gender Diverse Communities
Newcomers (Immigrants and Refugees)
Faith-based Communities
Persons with Disabilities
As OEA worked to develop the Strategy, it became clear that a more in-depth, collaborative approach was needed to address the needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ community through the development of a dedicated action plan. The strategy committed OEA as the government lead to work with community over the next year to develop an action plan to address needs identified by the community.
Action Plan:
The upcoming action plan will be an all-of-government, five-year action plan. OEA will be engaging with members of community to learn about specific concerns facing 2SLGBTQIA+ Nova Scotians and identify what the Provincial Government can do to support the community.
